This is the artists’s third solo show at AnnArt after Shadows (2012) and The Circle Theory (2013), and it brings together an impressive body of works: 58 oil on canvas paintings, accompanied by the video project Levitate and the very interesting and revealing series of sketches.
The new series, created during the last three years, extends and deepens the artist’s recurrent themes and concerns – regarding the existential tension of the contemporay man or woman, the urban space as both refuge and a place of restlessness, the chance of detachment from the mundane terrestrial towards the angelic sky. The complexity of the artist’s approach to these themes is also evident in the powerful chromatic structure, laid across small and large-scale formats alike, from 100x150 cm through to 140x220 cm and the compelling of 160x310 cm.
A small number of works from this latest series had a pre-view at Art Safari in May 2016, where they garnered a powerful public reception.
The series is documented in a tri-lingual catalog, with launches in both Vienna and Bucharest.
View From Above opens Tuesday 11 October and runs through to 19 November 2016, at AnnArt . Following on, from 29 November, a selection of works from the series will be presented by FivePlus Art Gallery, in Vienna.
