AnnArt’s October opening takes place Wednesday 25th of October at 6 PM and features Ioana Nicoară, a graphic artist, member of the TAA AnnArt group. Initiated in October 2011 as part of a group exhibition at the AnnArt gallery, the TAA group is an experiment that follows that course of 10 young artists selected for the first edition of EBienale. Six years after this first event, Ioana Nicoară returns with a new approach, influenced by her most recent preoccupations in the field of film animation.
The show Effective Solutions or The Geometry Insectarium is curated by Ilina Schileru and contains 113 watercolors accompanied by a video project.
As part of the exhibition, the gallery also hosted a watercolor painting workshop for children ages 8-12 lead by Ioana Nicoară and part of the program The Heart of Art on the 11th and 18th of November.
Similar to an ethnological museum incursion, Ioana Nicoară builds series of insectariums in frames or directly on the wall using pins like those that pin down butterfly specimens in glass boxes. From a distance, the gallery walls turn into observation tables for visitors, suggesting a high-perspective “reading” of the space: each vertical plane of the gallery opens a parallel dialog with the viewer and questions the issue of perception from a distance versus from afar. With the manner of exhibiting and delimiting the observational areas, the creator-researcher detaches herself from the evanescent emotional baggage during the moment of creation and repositions herself into a simple viewer, getting lost in the crowd. The research continues in observing the reaction of another consciousness when encountering the “insectarium”.
