Already established as a winter tradition, this year the solo exhibition by Ștefan Câlția presents the New Uroborus - painting and graphics. Curated by Vladimir Bulat, the exhibition brings together works from 1972 to 2019. The project is a follow-up to the major exhibition organized in Chișinau by Galeria Posibilă and proposes a discovery of a side of Câlția perhaps unknown to many: that of a social revolt, subtly decanted over time in the wisdom and serenity of today's works.

Romanian after 1980
Romania in the years after 1980, with the heavy echoes of the March 1977 earthquake, was a cruel, icy, gray period. The world after the "Iron Curtain" moaned with different magnitudes of the cold, malnutrition, lying, informational isolation, duplicity, humility, apathy, etc.
It was during this decade that painter Ștefan Câlția produced a series of paintings and graphic sheets of larger and smaller dimensions, which will remain in the history of local art as testimonies of sublimated anger and insurgency, signs of a symbolic revolt, sibylline efforts towards meanings that only today do we begin to discern them, little by little.
As we have become accustomed to in recent years, the painter Ștefan Câlția shares with us where he draws the line on during the artistic year, and this year, Galeria Posibilă that represents him organized the exhibition Uroborus at the National Museum of Art of Moldova, in Chisinau, and in Bucharest, for AnnArt gallery with its new look in a new headquarters, I thought of a replica of that exhibition, which I titled the New Uroborus - for which I put together a few new works, and just as many pieces from the personal archive of artist Ștefan Câlția, mainly graphics, which hold the echoes of the socio-political disturbances of Europe, of yesterday and today. We will witness pictorial marks dating from the distant year 1968, until the present 2019, when beyond the Prut the “Red River” acquired unsuspected, strange valences, interpretable in every way.
